PCGIS supports National Heritage Conservation Commission in World Heritage Site application
The Provincial Centre For Geographic Information Services (PCGIS) was requested to do a project for the National Heritage Conservation Commission (NHCC). NHCC is a member and signatory of the world heritage convention which oversees the conservation and management of cultural sites just to mention a few.

The Barotse floodplain is located in the Western Province of Zambia, and covers five of the seven districts, namely Kalabo, Lukulu, Mongu, Shangombo and Senanga.
These plains are found on both sides of the Zambezi River and after its margins on the east begin the high grounds of Mongu and Senanga Districts, and are part of the rich cultural heritage of Zambia. This is where the famous Kuomboka Ceremony of the Lozi speaking people of Western Province takes place.
The map shows different shades of water bodies, the National Parks and Game Management Areas (GMAs) around the proposed area of the Barotse Flood Plains WHS (World Heritage Site) as this can be clearly be depicted on the map.
The map will be part of the application to make the Barotse Flood Plain a world Heritage Site of the UNESCO.
